Throughout this course my overall experience has been wonderful. I was blessed with an instructor and fellow peers who offered very useful and insightful information regarding various topics. The information that captured my attention the most was some of the current articles I researched on Speech language disorders concerning my Course Project Major Assessment. It was very interesting to read how society, some educators, and families of SPL children understood the emotional side of SPL children. As an early childhood advocate, understanding emotions of young children is very important in their stages of development; therefore focusing on positive early childhood development, I believe, should be one of the main factors in future research.

Hi Jessica B.,
ReplyDeleteIt was truly a pleasure “meeting” and collaborating with you throughout this course. You provided meaningful insights on your scenario discussions. Also, your discussion posting were always thought provoking and I admire your dedication for positive social change. You wrote, “The information that captured my attention the most was some of the current articles I researched on Speech language disorders concerning my Course Project Major Assessment.” Did you have a difficult time finding articles for the Course Project (Major Assessment)? I had a difficult time finding articles that were relevant to the challenge I chose. I hope to collaborate with you in the future courses. Good luck in your future courses and enjoy the short break.

Jessica your area of interest is so important within the early childhood setting. I have several children within my class who have speech delays with articulation, and vocabulary. I am now in the process of having them all work with a speech pathologist. It truly makes a difference for them especially when I see them getting frustrated with talking because they feel we don't understand. Do you see yourself furthering studies within this field? I see the benefits of your course major assessment with this field. Thank you for our insights on this topic.
ReplyDeleteJosette,
DeleteThanks for you post. This is off the topic, but I've been trying to choose names for my daughter, due in June, and I love your name. All the names I have come up with have begin with the letter J!! Anyway, helping children with speech-language disorders has been a mission for me every since I was brave enough to face my own fears acknowledging my own. As a child, working with a speech pathologist gave me hope; but of course, like every child, I wanted the stammer to completely leave. As soon as I realized that it was not going to leave but rather it had to be controlled, I begin to handle it much better. So, that is what I want to instill in my students. Sometimes you have control a situation instead of completely eliminating it; that is one of the most powerful lessons I learned from my high school speech therapist. Josette, you asked if I see myself furthering studies in the field of speech pathology; I want to go back to obtain a Master's degree in speech pathology; after I finish the specialist in early childhood. I know it's strange, going backwards, but you never know where life will take you. Thanks for feedback on my post and I hope to see you again in future courses.
Shamanie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your response to my blog post. I also enjoyed collaborating with you throughout this course. I sometimes had difficulty finding articles relating to my course major project topic. We will most likely collaborate again in the next course Dynamics of Early Childhood Policies and Systems. Have a great short break and I wish you all the best as well.
